Kupi

Kupi is a live installation by Samara Reweti exploring the politics of the gaze—investigating surveillance, intimacy, and perception. Through improvisation, movement, and technology, Kupi invites audiences into an immersive experience that challenges how we see and are seen. This showing will feature a sharing of Samara’s creative process and research.

Samara Te Aniwa Reweti (Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Uenukukopako) is a performance artist, choreographer and dance teacher based in Tauranga Moana, Aotearoa.


With 15+ years of experience in street styles of dance, Samara spent two of those years training in Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Since graduating from the New Zealand School of Dance in 2021, Samara has gone on to work with numerous companies and choreographers across Aotearoa, alongside developing her own choreographic practice.

In 2022, Samara was the recipient of the Eileen May Norris Dance Award and in 2023, she travelled to Vienna, Austria for the DanceWEB scholarship programme. In 2024, Samara completed her diploma in Te Tohu Paetahi, a full-immersion te reo Māori course at The University of Waikato.
